It's all about to start

Okay here we go, I've never done anything like this before but a friend of mine  (Jaqui Lemon) said I should publish a blog about my new restoration project.

To give you some of the background, my wife has this year bought me a BSA motorbike for Christmas, it's of 1948 vintage technically known as a B31 ( I think, but more of that later)

The bike has been in her family for quite a few years as her dad bought it in about 1980 (I'll confirm that later) and I'd always thrown it admiring glances as I'd see it in his garage. Now Melanie's (that's the wife) dad is although sprightly recently turned 85 so his bike riding days are unfortunately behind him and the bike had disappeared in to storage about five years ago.

Now I'd always said that her dad had better not sell that bike, as it should be treated like a fine piece of porcelain or jewelry and should not leave the family. Mel had always laughed at this telling me I should say something to him, but I never did.

Well earlier this year Mel called by to see her parents and passed her Dad in the driveway talking to a guy she didn't know. When she asked her mum who he was talking to, her mum said "Oh some man who has come to buy that old bike of his"
Well to Mel's credit, up she flew and ran out the house, shouting to her dad as he was about to accept the money, he can't sell the bike!
John looking confused asked why to which Mel said I'd always looked at the bike and would be upset if he sold it. Mel said what ever the man was going to pay for it, she would give him the same.
I dread to think what the poor guy was thinking, but oh well his loss my gain and he if he ever reads this, I apologise for him losing the bike, I just hope I can do it justice.

So here I am, the day after Boxing day with all these grand plans going through my head, I've put the very first pictures I've taken of the bike up on here and I'll add some later in the week.

My first goal is to read up about the bike, so if entries are a bit thin for the first few months bear with me, as when I start the actual work hopefully it will get more interesting.

The first thing I've done is subscribe to Classic Motorbike magazine, so I must be ready for flat cap and pipe I reckon.

Hope you enjoy the adventure with me!
